What began as an heartfelt campaign for every Ghanaian to start appreciating our local utensil, Asanka/Apotoyewa/Kaaa towards the sensitization of plastic pollution in Ghana was a great success on its first ever online campaign.

A walk on the streets of Ghana, is almost never enjoyed as plastics are fast taking over our streets. The alarming observation is that, most of these plastics ends up in our oceans and landfills as Ghana has close to a zero recycling capacity. Another alarming observation with our food industry’s rise in usage of single-use plastics like bags/bands, cups, shitor cups, straws, take out packs, etc, is also a huge contributor in the fast rise of plastic pollution in Ghana.

The goal of #worldAsankaDay , is bring back our ecological and environmental friendly local utensils like earthenware bowls(asanka), calabash(gourds), coconut bowls, stone platters, wooden bowls/platter and other made in Ghana metal utensils. For a country like ours, as a developing economy, we at Ghana Food Network strongly believe that, banning plastics from been imported into Ghana is the one important goal that can help us reduce and eventually get rid of plastic pollution from our streets and oceans around the world.

On the first launch of this great cause for our motherland, we are humbly looking forward to the cooperation of all, to help save our beautiful country so our little growing generations will grow to enjoy a clean, healthy and environmentally cautious country.
