Ingredients

Adjust Servings:
2 fingers Yellow Plantain; Korkoor
3 pieces Scotch bonnet pepper
20 g Ginger fresh ginger
10 cloves Cloves or about 15 g of powdered cloves
1 small size Onion
1 teaspoon Salt season accordingly
200ml Peanut oil or any seed oil of personal choice

This spicy fried ripe plantains make a great side dish on every occasion.

Kelewele is one of the popular Ghanaian street foods and its perfect for brunch as a side dish; as snacks on its own or with peanuts and also as dessert with some ice cream. Be prepared to be addicted to this favourite dish.

Peel and slice the plantain into cubes and set aside.

In an asanka or an apotoyewa (traditonal Ghanaian grinding and cooking clay bowl), add in rest of ingredients and grind into smooth paste with the tapoli (pestle).
You can use a blender in absence of an asanka or apotoyewa.

Add the cubed ripe plantains into the asanka/apotoyewa and mix with the spicy paste to cover the planttains completely. Fry in hot oil stirring occasionally for about 5-7 minutes, until golden brown and cooked.
Kelewele is best eaten with roasted peanuts but do also make a great side dish own its own.
